Root canal treatment is used to save a tooth when the nerve inside has become inflamed, infected or damaged, often as a result of decay, a crack, trauma or a large filling.
During treatment, the infected or damaged tissue inside the tooth is carefully removed. The root canals are then cleaned, disinfected and sealed to help prevent further infection. Modern techniques and local anaesthetic mean that root canal treatment is usually a comfortable and predictable procedure.
The main benefit is that it can relieve pain, treat infection and preserve your natural tooth, avoiding the need for extraction. Following treatment, the tooth may require a strong restoration, such as a crown or onlay, to protect it and restore normal function for the future.
James has undergone further training in endodontics and uses the latest bioceramic sealants, ultrasonic disinfection protocols and high magnification.
